Agnes “Adell" Stanley 96 passed away July 20th, 2025 in Independence, Missouri. Adell was born July 12th 1929 in a log cabin in Grassy Butte, North Dakota to Willie and Elizabeth (Jessen) Adams. She grew up in North Dakota and Montana during the depression.
Adell graduated from high school in Chariton, Iowa. Then on to Valley City State Normal School, North Dakota for a teacher's certificate. The same school, her mother received her teacher's certificate from then on to Graceland college in lamoni, Iowa where she would take classes that would lead her into the world of bookkeeping and financial reconciliation that helped her get jobs at Meredith publishing company in Des Moines, Iowa, the IRS in KCMO. Lane realty, Carpenters travel agency, Missouri valley extension Jackson County, and Steve Schults accounting services, all in Independence, Missouri. She also used her teaching certificate to substitute teach first grade classes and developmental disability classes at Blackburn grade school.
The family moved in the '40 to Chariton Iowa, on her 18th birthday she met a very special person, Pearl (Dane) Shipp. Pearl and Adell spent the next 78 yrs as best friends, sharing many adventures together. Including talking together on her last birthday.
Adell met Alfred J Stanley in 1955 and the two were United in marriage September 8th 1956 in the RLDS’s-old Central Church , Des Moines, Iowa. The couple went on to move around from Des Moines to Minneapolis back down to Des Moines and then eventually Independence Missouri in 1965. Her family joined the Walnut Gardens/East Alton Congregation where Adell sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and assisted in the women's department. In later years she loved to do genealogy, travel, and talk about her family tree and DNA to anyone who would listen. She was an avid reader, loved PBS mysteries, golf in classical music . At 89 she decided to Don a Chief’s sweatshirt and start cheering for the Chiefs and if asked why she started so late in life she would let you know it was because The Chiefs became more interesting to watch.
Adell was proceeded in death by her husband Alfred J Stanley, her parents, two sistersBeverly (Adams) Kent,IA and Eileen (Adams) Kekoa,WA one brother Lawrence Adams,NZ and two nephews Benjamin Kent, MO and Sterling Kekoa, HI.
Adell leaves a sister Marie Weiss, Overland Park, KS and a brother Willie Adams Jr. Palataka, FL. Three children. Alice Stanley, Higginsville, Scott Stanley Kearney and Pamela and Randy Payne, Grain Valley. Four grandchildren. Michael and Joanna Phillips, Independence, Elizabeth and Leonard LaGuardia, Grandview, Lauren Payne, Independence and Charlie Stanley, Kearney. Two great-grandchildren David Edwards Grandview and Makayla Phillips, Independence. Many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Adell will be laid to rest in Lobb Cemetery, Blue Springs, Missouri in a Private Graveside service.
