Rev. Amos Baker entered this world on January 20, 1937, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Amos Henry Baker and Martha Watt Baker. He peacefully departed this life at home on May 3, 2026. At an early age, Amos accepted Christ as his Savior and began a lifelong walk of faith.
At the age of 17, Amos enlisted in the United States Navy, where he earned his GED while serving his country. After completing his tour in the Navy, he later enlisted in the United States Air Force. He received honorable discharges from both branches of military service
.Amos pursued a career in nursing by attending school for Practical Nursing. He faithfully served as a Licensed Practical Nurse from 1975 until his retirement in 2006. Preceding him in death were one son, his parents, two brothers, one sister, a stepson, and a nephew.
On November 6, 1988, Amos married the love of his life, Charity Baker, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Together, they shared not only a marriage but also a profession, as both worked as Licensed Practical Nurses. Charity retired in 2008. Later, they relocated to Kansas City, Missouri, to care for Charity's mother.
In 2006, Amos and Charity proudly graduated from Martin University with Bachelor of Arts degrees. Both achieved the distinction of Class Valedictorians and graduated Summa Cum Laude. They also received the school's Perseverance Award.
In 1991, Amos experienced a powerful transformation through God's grace and was delivered from kidney dialysis, alcoholism, cigarettes, and drugs. He faithfully served as an Assistant Minister at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church of Kansas City from 2012 to 2023, where he also sang in the Male Chorus.
In March 2024, Amos and Charity united with Friendship Baptist Church of Kansas City under the leadership of Pastor James Allen Terrance, Jr., where they remained faithful members until his passing.
Amos leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Charity Baker; stepchildren Jerome, Victor, and Yulaunda; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure his life and legacy.
