          Bennie Duane Howe, 73, of Liberty, MO, passed away March 24, 2024, at North Kansas City Hospital.

          Bennie was born May 25, 1950, in Centerville, Iowa, the younger of two children of Bennie Junior Howe and Helen Maxine Howe.  His father preceded him in death.  Bennie was united in marriage to Anita Briscoe on April 1, 1987, and she preceded him in death in 2008.  He later met Debbie Hovious and they have been together since.

          Along with his mother Helen of Columbus Junction, IA and companion Debbie of Liberty, MO, Bennie leaves his children, Matt Howe (Malia), of Rochester, MN, and Angela Howe of Richmond, VA; granddaughters, Jillian and Adrienne Howe; sister, Diana (Howe) Hickman (Kent) of Colorado; as well as other family members and many friends.

          Bennie received his Bachelor’s degree from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, MO.  He first worked as a Roadmaster in Chicago for the Rock Island Railroad.  Then after working a short time as a track inspector for the State of Illinois, he went to work for the Federal Government Department of Transportation.   He retired as a Regional Grade Crossing Manager for the Federal Railroad Administration in 2010.  

          Bennie enjoyed life and had many hobbies. During his career he travel to 49 of the 50 states (no railroad in Hawaii).  His hobbies and travels created a large and diverse group of friends. His laugh and smile were infectious and he had an unparalleled ability recall and retell captivating stories. Throughout his life he greatly enjoyed riding motorcycles, boating, hunting, fishing, and restoring classic cars. In retirement he enjoyed woodworking and gardening. His beloved dog Edith was always by his side until she passed in 2023.
