Charles "Charlie" Allen Gouge

July 26, 1936 — September 12, 0023

Excelsior Springs

Charles Allen Gouge, 87, of Excelsior Springs, MO, and formerly of Kearney, MO, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2023, at Kansas City Hospice House.  Charlie was surrounded by his loving family in the days prior to his death.

Charlie was born July 26, 1936, in Tustin, Michigan, the seventh of eight children of Rev. Robert Garland Gouge and Agnes Hansena (Johnsen) Gouge.  He was united in marriage to Deloma Jean Crain on June 21, 1958, in Independence, MO. The ceremony was officiated by Charlie’s father.  Charlie and Deloma were blessed with three children, Karen Sue, Pamela Jean and Paul Allen.

Charlie and Deloma lived in New Jersey for 25 years and then Kearney for 24 years.  Following a stroke in 1984, Charlie was lovingly cared for by Deloma in their home until November 2009 when he moved to a facility in Excelsior Springs.

Charlie worked as a printer until his debilitating stroke at the age of 46.  Through the years, he never lost his sense of humor or grace. He enjoyed wearing a cowboy hat and boots and listening to Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson. Charlie was the personification of goodness and kindness even in the midst of his disability. He adored his family and treasured their visits together.

Along with his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Deloma; son, Paul Allen Gouge; two brothers and four sisters. Survivors include his daughters, Karen Reed (Dick) and Pamela Oluola; grandchildren, Christopher Reed (Amber), Shannon Reed, Jeremy Reed (Laura), Tanner Marion (Cheyene), and Ryan Gouge (Morgan); great grandchildren, Aurora, Keandre and Amarrya, Damian and Brayden, Skyla Jean and Charles, Benjamin and Athena. He also leaves a sister, Edith Schmidt; and many nieces and nephews including Ricky Wiseman who was very devoted to his uncle.

Charlie’s family will hold a private service.  You may share a message with the family or sign an online guest book via www.parklawnfunerals.com.  Arrangements: Park Lawn Northland Chapel (816) 781-8228.
