Chester "Chet" Manley, 80, passed away December 10, 2023.  Chet was born September 7, 1943 in St. Louis, Missouri to Calvin C. Manley and Gertrude (Mann) Manley.  He was a United States Marine Corp veteran.  Chet was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and Nall Avenue Baptist Church.  He was a Boilermaker and worked for Sears, the Kansas City Fire Department, the Jackson County Sheriff Department as Captain of the Airwing, and was the owner/operator of Chet Manley Contracting, Inc. for 50 years.  You would have seen him in his beloved red pickup truck.

Chet volunteered at Nall Avenue Baptist Church, Camp Fire Girls, Boy Scouts of America, KCPD Firing Range, Habitat for Humanity and the Kansas City Chiefs.  He was always there for anyone who needed an extra hand.  Chet was a loving husband, father, grandpa to his family, and friend.

Mr. Manley was preceded in death by his parents Calvin and Gertrude Manley; father-in-law and mother-in-law Roy and Virgina Fite; foster parents John and Gwendolyn Banta, foster parents Harry and Gertrude Emrie; brother Tom Manley, sister Cyndi Caton, sister Judy DesCombes, and brother Henry (Hank) Manley.

Survivors include his wife Ruth Manley, daughter Tammy Shordon and husband Tarsy, daughter Sue Parsons and husband Jon, sisters Ann Sampson, Carol Banta Sopok and husband Jim, Cathy Bohnak, Chris Simino, brothers Rickie Manley and his wife Suzie, Curt Emrie and his wife Jerry, sister-in-law Lee Manley, brothers-in-law Tom Caton, Ron DeCombes, grandchildren Thomas Shordon, Carwyn Shordon and Mason Parsons, nieces and nephews Paul Sampson, Laurie Landra, Christopher Sampson and his wife Leslie, Mitch Bohnak and his wife Jen, Deanna Violette and her husband Paul, Joe Weil and his wife Jen, Curtis Simino and his wife Megan, Aime’e Simino, Jessica Loony and her husband James, James Curran his wife Rachel, great nieces and great nephews Jennifer her husband Allen, Sophia, Joey, Annagrace, Bastian, Mathias, Emrie, Benton, Lee-La, Tommie, Jessie, Justin, Joshua, Josephine, Jaiden, Ella, Lane, Murray, Jay and wife Shannon, Nick and wife Tina, Trinity, Courtney and McKenzie.

Visitation will be 5-7PM, Friday, December 15 at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd., Kansas City, Missouri.  Funeral services will be 9AM, Saturday, December 16 at Park Lawn Funeral Home; burial at Green Lawn Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Missouri Baptist Children's Home, 11300 St Charles Rock Rd, Bridgeton, MO 63044.  If sending flowers, please do not send spider mums or any lilies due to family member allergies.
