Clark Lynn Hulbert

Clark Lynn Hulbert, 80, of Belton, Missouri, entered into rest with Jesus on February 2, 2026.

Clark took his first breath on March 14, 1945, in Corpus Christi, Texas, where his dad was stationed in the Navy during the latter days of World War II. He was the eldest of five children born to Carroll and Inez Hulbert. His siblings are Larry Hulbert, Coleen (Bob) Henley, Maureen Hulbert, and Lana (Terry) Lincoln.

After the war ended, Carroll Hulbert took his small family to his hometown Clarinda, Iowa. They then moved to Olathe, Kansas; Raytown, Missouri; Clark, Missouri; Martin City, Missouri; and finally settled to raise their growing family in Grandview, Missouri.

Clark graduated from Grandview High School in 1963, and attended Evangel College in Springfield, Missouri for one year. He then transferred to Michigan State in Lansing, Michigan where he studied a couple of years. The Vietnam War intensified. To avoid being drafted into the Army, Clark enlisted in the Navy in 1966. He spent 3 years in the Crash Crew at Miramar Naval Air Station (original Top Gun filmed there), just north of San Diego, California.

Clark and Linda met in the fall of 1967 and were married on July 12, 1968. After living together as husband and wife for just nine months, Clark was slated to serve a year in Vietnam. Linda moved back to her parents home, and they had a long distance relationship while he served on a Naval Air Station at Binh Thuy, on the Ca River in Southern Vietnam.

When Clark was mustered out in 1970, they moved back to Grandview where Clark was trained in carpentry by his father and Uncle Smith Hardee. He decided to go back to Michigan State to finish his BA Degree and that is where he became a father for the first time.

After graduation, Clark, Linda and Jennifer moved back to Grandview and Clark became a rough-in carpenter working with his brother Larry and various cousins and other contractors. Clark built both of the homes where he and Linda raised their family (and Linda still lives in the second) in Belton, Missouri. In the 1990s, Clark joined his brother Larry in the Hulbert Construction Company Corporation, and they became general contractors and builders of houses in the Kansas City and Olathe areas. This lasted several years until both of them had health issues.

Clark began a new career as a PARA for the Grandview School district, working in several of the district’s schools. He retired in July 2018, ending his PARA career at Grandview High School.

Clark loved to read. His favorite types of books were Westerns (especially Louis L’Amour), Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Action/Thriller. He was also a very good chess player, besting many who tried to beat him. Saturday mornings were always a favorite time when “Dad” made Waffles, Pancakes, or Monkey Bread, first for his seven children and then for whatever grandkids happened to show up.

Clark and Linda were members of Blue Ridge Bible Church (now Word of Grace Fellowship) for many years. Clark was active there in the Tree Climber (little boys) Division of Boys Brigade and served as Sunday School Superintendent for several years. He also served several years on the School Board of Blue Ridge Christian School. As age crept up, it seemed prudent to change to a church closer to home-South Haven Baptist Church—where they have been members since 2016.

Clark is preceded in death by both of his parents, his brother, Larry and his sister Lana.

Clark is survived by Linda, his wife of fifty-seven and one half years, of the home, his children, Jennifer (Jay) Garner, Jeannette (Jason) Petersen, Johanna (Paul) Pankonin, Cameron (Lisa) Hulbert, Matthew Hulbert, Jessica (Mike) Boeke, and Jannell Hulbert. He also leaves nine loving grandchildren, granddaughters Brienne and Michal Garner; granddaughters Chloe, Cailey, Emma, and grandson Simon Petersen; granddaughters Anne, Abigail, and grandson Tyler Pankonin. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and many cousins with whom he shared a close relationship.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, MO.
