Obituary

Claudia Jean Vokoun, born September 17, 1945 in Dunkerton Iowa, passed away on September 8, 2026 at Liberty Hospital. She lived in Waterloo Iowa until she and her husband moved to Liberty, MO in 2010 to be closer to her daughter, Amanda and husband Jeremy.

Claudia will be remembered as a woman who loved her family dearly and brought warmth, energy, and joy wherever she went. Traditional in many ways but always full of fun, she was the life of the party at family reunions and gatherings, occasions she especially loved. Her family was at the center of her heart, and she took special joy in her grandsons, Austin and Ethan.

Claudia dedicated nearly 30 years of her career to the Black Hawk County Treasurer’s Office in Waterloo, Iowa, where she served her community with dedication and commitment.

She found happiness in simple pleasures. Claudia spent every summer weekend at Holiday Lake, where she loved boating and making memories. She was deeply interested in genealogy and history, pursuits that reflected her appreciation for family roots and the stories that connect generations. She also loved listening to music, traveling, being a part of her card club for many years, playing 500. Claudia embraced the experiences and moments that made life rich and memorable.

One of Claudia’s proudest accomplishments was owning Mandy's Doll House and Gifts in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The shop marked the beginning of her love of collecting and stood as a reflection of her personality, creativity, and enthusiasm for the things she cherished.

Above all, Claudia loved all of her family, and that love will remain her lasting legacy. She will be remembered with affection for her lively spirit, her devotion to those she loved, and the joy she brought to time spent together.

Claudia’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Claude and Emma Eldridge; as well as her husband: Harold Vokoun; her brother: Bob Eldridge, and her sister: Mary (Lowell) Robinson.

She is survived by her loving daughter: Amanda (Jeremy) Capps, and her grandsons: Austin and Ethan Capps; as well as her nieces and nephews: Linda Sullivan, Laura Routier, Ann Eldridge, Bill Eldridge, Nicole Tutton, and Barry Pattison.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Dunkerton Historical & Tourism Association: 203 Tower St., Dunkerton, IA 50626.

Claudia will be laid to rest at a later date next to her dear husband, Harold, at the Iowa National Veteran’s Cemetery.
