In Loving Memory of Dale Allen Porter
April 4, 1960 - October 20, 2025
Our father, Dale Allen Porter, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on October 20, 2025 in Kansas City, MO at the age of 65 after a valiant 2 year battle with cancer.
Born on April 4, 1960 in Kansas City, MO to Donald Dean Porter and Helen Lorraine (Baker) Porter. The youngest of 4 siblings, Dale was already surrounded by family growing up. In his early years he lived in Arizona and Utah as a young boy, before moving back to the Kansas City area in 1967 and then finally to Independence, MO in 1968 where he enjoyed playing little league baseball. In his teen years he joined the family trucking and brokerage business, driving and working on trucks for his dad and brothers in the summers. He enrolled in Vo-Tech and focused on automotive engine repair and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1978. Afterwards he worked with his dad for Aladdin trucks and then went to work as a truck tire service technician for Montgomery Ward. Several years later he worked for Sears Truck Tires Center as a truck tire technician and later a salesman. He then went to work for TCI Tire Centers, Inc. in sales and worked his way up to managing much of the Kansas City service office. Dale went to help his oldest “Big Brother”, Danny, with his business, Big Sky Trucking for several years. He remarked that those were some of his favorite memories of his career because he was working alongside his family again. Dale continued in trucking and tire sales for many more years until his eventual retirement.
Dale was a professed Christian and a true believer in Jesus Christ. From his early years attending church with his mother, to his renewed baptism as an adult; his faith was always an anchoring part of his life.
He was also a patriot and deeply respected his country, our service members, and the American flag; and more importantly what they stood for.
As an avid sportsman; Dale loved hunting - primarily white tailed deer, which garnered him the nickname “The Buckmaster”. He loved the thrill and excitement of being outdoors with those he loved and ultimately providing food for his family. He was also a huge sports fan, with a passion and pride for the Kansas City Royals, Chiefs, and the Missouri Tigers.
Dale was a diehard classic rock fan through and through. Coming of age in the “golden era of music” he listened to all the greats, but was especially endeared to the legendary, Ted Nugent.
To know Dale was to know loyalty, laughter, and generosity. He had a way of making everyone feel special and valued, whether through a perfectly timed joke, a helping hand, or one of his unforgettable stories. He loved his family deeply, and his greatest joy was being a father — a role he carried out with pride, tenderness, and devotion.
Dale lived a life defined by strength, humor, and an unwavering love for those he cared about most. He faced every challenge with resilience and courage, never losing his warmth or quick wit, even in the hardest moments. Dale’s legacy lives on through his 3 children, who will forever carry his strength, compassion, and love for life in their hearts.
He is survived by his 3 beloved children - his daughter Melissa (Porter) Russell and husband Patrick Russell; his son Douglas Porter and wife Makayla Porter; and his son Christopher Porter. His 5 cherished grandchildren - Gracelyn Porter, Theodore Porter, Everest Russell, Noah Porter, and Mila Russell; his brother, Terry Porter and sister-in-law Robin Porter; his girlfriend, Carrie McCarroll; his brother-in-law, Martin “Marty” Rosin; his nephew, Shannon Porter and wife Lisa Porter; his nephew, Brett Cayer and wife Kris Cayer; his niece, Amanda Porter-Thompson and husband Eric Thompson; his nephew, Justin Porter and wife Kristal Porter; his nephew, Daniel Porter and wife Malory Porter; his nephew, Brent Porter and wife Keila Porter; his nephew, Brandon Porter and wife Lydia Porter. He is also survived by his former wife and children's mother, Lauree Porter and his former second wife, Cherity Shriver.
Dale is preceded in death by his loving parents, Dean and Helen Porter; his big brother, Danny Porter and sister-in-law, Kathleen Porter; his beloved sister, Sandra (Porter) Rosin; and his fiancé, Teresa Rinard.
The family would like to thank his wonderful care team of Dr. Saqib Abassi, Dr. Ronny Rotondo, and the entire University of Kansas Health System team along with Saint Luke’s Hospice House.
