Ray Elizondo, a man whose life was filled with warmth, laughter, and a deep love for his family, passed away unexpectedly at his home on June 13, 2024. Born in the quaint town of Glenwood, Iowa on May 25, 1949, Ray's journey through life was marked by an unwavering spirit and a heart full of kindness.
Ray's educational path began at Glenwood High School, where he not only excelled academically, but also showcased his musical talent by playing the trumpet in the school band. To this day, his white and gold band uniform is in pristine condition. His passion for learning led him to graduate from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville with a degree in industrial arts. During his time at college, Ray's sociable nature shone bright as he became a proud member of the TKE fraternity.
Embarking on a professional career, Ray started as a teacher in Kearney. Later in life, he found fulfillment working at National Seminars, which was part of Rockhurst University until his well-deserved retirement.
A man of many interests and passions, Ray had a deep love for sports, cheering fervently for teams like the Nebraska Corn Huskers, Iowa Women's Basketball, Orrick Bearcats, Kansas City Chiefs, and Kansas City Royals. His eyes would light up whenever NASCAR races were on, showing his true enthusiasm for the sport. He loved to travel to Mexico, his favorite place on the planet.
Beyond sports, Ray was an avid collector of all things unique and fascinating. His collection of automobiles was vast and impressive - particularly his beloved GTOS and actual pace cars that held a special place in his heart. He even left behind a mystery boat for his daughters to discover, adding an air of intrigue to his legacy.
Ray's personality was truly one-of-a-kind - outgoing, intelligent, funny, caring, and endlessly supportive. He had a genuine gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued; he never knew a stranger. Above all else, Ray took immense pride in being a loving grandfather to his grandchildren; their presence brought him immeasurable joy and fulfillment.
Ray's proudest accomplishments revolved around his family who meant everything to him. His memory will forever live on through his daughters Stephanie Oaks (Dave) and Erika Nail (Jeff), along with grandchildren Sydney (Tucker) Pointer, Blake (Hannah) Elizondo, Derek Oaks, Abby Nail, Brooke (Dallas) Heuser, Hailee (Seth) Stonum; great-grandchildren Hunter Bauer, Liam Pointer, Mila Pointer, Griffin Elizondo, Lillith Elizondo, Maverick Heuser, Dawson Heuser, and Vance Stonum.
