Daren Maurice Johnson Sr., a devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and treasured friend, departed this life on the morning of Sunday, September 7, 2025. He was born on May 5, 1965, in Benton Harbor, Michigan, to Elbert Johnson and Joann, both of whom preceded him in death.
Daren shared a beautiful life with the love of his life, his wife, Donna (Wadley) Johnson. Together, they built a strong and loving family, raising two sons—Daren Johnson Jr. & Darius Johnson—and a stepson Marquis (Tony) Wadley. Daren is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Kylo & Roman Johnson, Xxavier, Malik, Tyrek, Jamyra and Amari Wadley and his three brothers: Kenneth, Elbert Dwyane, and Eric Johnson.
Throughout his years, Daren lived a life of purpose and impact. He proudly served as a Captain in the United States Army, demonstrating courage, leadership, and dedication to his country. His military service, which began with his commission through the ROTC program at the University of Mississippi, shaped the way he led, inspired, and uplifted others throughout his life. At Ole Miss, Daren also played collegiate football, showcasing his athletic talent and teamwork, while achieving a Bachelor’s degree, laying the foundation for his multifaceted career. Daren was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., where his commitment to brotherhood, service, and community created lifelong bonds and meaningful contributions.
Beyond his service, Daren wore many hats with excellence and passion. As an educator, he inspired countless students to rise above challenges and pursue their dreams with determination. As a football coach, he instilled discipline, teamwork, and integrity in the athletes he mentored—lessons that stretched far beyond the field. His entrepreneurial spirit also shone brightly through his work as a business owner, creating opportunities and uplifting those around him.
At the heart of Daren’s (aka Bam Bam) life was his family. His love and devotion to Donna were unwavering, rooted in respect, joy, and partnership. As a father, he was a steady source of wisdom, guidance, and encouragement. His grandsons were his pride and joy, and he cherished every laugh and moment shared with them. His bond with his brothers was equally strong, marked by deep camaraderie, support, and love. To his extended family and friends, Daren was a pillar—someone always ready with a kind word, a hearty laugh, or a helping hand.
Daren’s presence was a source of strength and inspiration, marked by his contagious enthusiasm for life and his unwavering desire to uplift others. His legacy is one of love, leadership, and lasting impact. Though his earthly journey has ended, the values he instilled, the lives he touched, and the love he shared will continue to shine through generations.
Daren you will forever remain in the hearts of family, friends, and community—a beacon of light whose memory will never fade.
