Dawson Chase Hawthorne was born on August 15th, 2000 in Overland Park, Kansas and passed away on July 12th, 2025. He grew up in South Kansas City, MO and went to Center School District 58. He first started learning home remodeling skills with his step dad Chris Moore and honed his technique with his older brother Curtis Calkins as an adult.
Dawson played little league baseball as a child and also played in high school. Dawson loved the Royals and the Chiefs. He was a boy scout working towards being an Eagle Scout from 2010-2015. Dawson attended a week-long survival expedition in Philmont, New Mexico with Boy Scouts of America in 2015. He was a talented drummer in a band called The Chloregards. They were finalists in the 28th Annual Farmers Ball in Lawrence, KS in 2022.
He enjoyed spending quality time with his family, playing with his nieces and nephews, and goofing around with his siblings. Dawson could make a friend wherever he was and he did. He touched the hearts of others with his jokes, his gorgeous smile and positive light. He wanted to help others by imparting his wisdom about anything and everything he was learning. Dawson enjoyed talking about the movies and shows he was watching and fishing anytime he was invited. His strongest desire was for everyone to be together and love one another as if there were no tomorrow.
Dawson is survived by his grandparents Karen and Philip Lees, his mother Kristene Moore, Cristin Hawthorne, siblings Craig Curtis Calkins IV, Tyler Calkins, Savanna Abron (Calkins), Spencer Hawthorne, Courtney Calkins, Tasha Strange, Michael Abron, Emerald Hawthorne and nieces and nephews Amia Strange, Jimmy Strange, Marlo Strange, Aiden Abron, Eli Abron, Cooper Calkins, Oren Hawthorne, Emery Abron, Lorelei Abron, Harley Hawthorne, Onyx Hawthorne and Iso Hawthorne.
Dawson wanted a life that offered promise and hope in the world. In the end, he was a hero. His sharing and selfless nature continues on through the donation of his corneas, so that someone else may see life through his eyes. His legacy will forever be felt in the memories, hearts and minds of those that had the privilege of knowing him.
