Debra K. Snyder, 69, was born on July 7, 1956, in Kansas City, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents: Earnest A. Skinner, Jr., and Betty J. Skinner, grandparents, Ernest A. Skinner, Sr. and Lulu B. Skinner, Vesta V. Wright and Anna F. Harris.
Debra lived all her life in the Kansas City area. She was married in 1992 to John Snyder. She chose a career in Law Enforcement and began in detention in April of 1987. She transferred to Dispatch in 1989 and after a couple of years, Debra became a sworn officer with the Raytown Police Department in 1991. She proudly served in this capacity until she was promoted to Detective in November 1994. She was the only investigator in the Juvenile Unit. While there, she spent approximately a year developing and implementing the Raytown Youth Court. Working in this capacity, she also was a forensic interviewer with The Child Protection Center. Continuing her education, she earned an AA degree in Criminal Justice in May 1996 receiving Phi Theta Kappa (high honors). She continued with training and certification as a hostage negotiator and CVSA operator/analyst. In July 2007, she transferred to the Professional Standards Unit in charge of training and hiring. In November 2008, she transferred to patrol. Debra retired after 24 years, in December 2011.
Before and after retirement, Debra enjoyed motorcycles, traveling, scuba diving and beaches.
Debra departed this life on July 11, 2025 at the home. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by, her husband, John Snyder, two children: Jason Bice and Jennifer Harp, and two step children: Amy Costanzo and Matthew Snyder, two sisters: Luann Pilcher and Rachel Galvin , 10 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
