Naoma E. Devaul

July 30, 1944 — January 9, 2022

Naoma Etta (Burnett) DeVaul passed away at the age of 77 in Kansas City, Missouri on January 9, 2022. Naoma was born in Turney, MO to Clevis and Reve (Gasteneau) Burnett on July 30, 1944. She was the eighth child out of 12 siblings. She graduated from Kidder High School (Kidder, MO) in 1962.

She married the love of her life, John DeVaul, in 1963 and settled down in Kansas City to start a family and eventually land her dream job as a florist. She could name any flower, plant, or tree and was often called upon by family to help rescue a plant or two. Pink roses were her absolute favorite. Her love of feeding people started in high school where she earned a Betty Crocker award in Home Economics. She was rarely called by her given name because she had so many nicknames by loved ones (Omie, Nene) - all of her names were unique and special, just like her.

Family was the most important thing in her life. She loved nothing more than spending time with them. She always welcomed family and friends into her home who needed a place to stay, no matter for how long or what time of day. She knew to always have the coffee on and a meal ready to eat. She enjoyed finding new recipes and always had everyone’s favorite food on hand just in case. She spent the past couple of years traveling and going on adventures. She loved scrapbooking, baking, card games, and watching true crime shows.

Naoma is survived by her two sisters, Helen (Burnett) Hahn & Judy (Burnett) Manzano, her three beloved children, Jeff (Debbie), Connie Briggs (Brad), and Rob (Dawn), and her nine grandchildren, Mandy (Jeff), Michael (Rikki), Brett, Levi (Shelbey), Carson, Joshua, Wyatt, Brooke, and Donovan, and six great-grandchildren, Mallory, Oliver, Max, Sutton, Caroline, and Jensyn. She also had countless nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband (John), parents, five sisters, and four brothers.
