Donald Byron Woolsey was born February 7,1939 in Independence, Missouri to Byron J. Woolsey and Anamay Moore Woolsey. He was the oldest of four siblings: Barbara J. White, Gary Lee Woolsey, and Patricia G. Duncan.
Don’s early life was spent in the family home built by his parents, surrounded by uncles, aunts, and their families who were closely connected in a suburban setting. The family also spent weekends and vacations at their lake home at Lake of the Ozarks where he acquired a love of fishing and water sports.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1961 through 1963. In July 1964, he married his soulmate, Joyce. They had 61 happy years together before his passing on March 8, 2026 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. His heart was overwhelmed by his love for his two daughters, Laura Lowry (husband Jason Lowry) and Amy Gillman (husband Joe Gillman) and four grandchildren: Alec Lowry, Gwyneth Lowry, Julia Brooke Gillman, and Alexis Gillman.
He worked in printing and graphic arts his entire career and retired in 2007. In his leisure time, he loved taking fishing trips to various places and looked forward every year to tournaments with his buddies. For several years he gathered large amounts of fishing tackle and equipment for his tournament organizations to support and nurture a love of fishing and the outdoors for children.
We will gather in the near future for a celebration of Don’s life.
