Dorothy Rose Lary

It is with great sadness that the family of Dorothy Lary announces her passing. Dorothy Rose Lary, 84, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family and caregivers during the last days of her life. Dorothy was born in Union, South Carolina but has been in Kansas City, MO since 1968. During her lifetime, she was a homemaker, a waitress, and a nurse for Research Hospital (working with the babies in the nursery). She was a devoted wife of 64 years to her husband Albert “Al” Lary.  She loved going on business trips with her daughter Debbi and traveling the US with her husband Al. Dorothy loved bowling, playing tea party and coin counting with her great granddaughters, and getting her nails done. Dorothy aimed to please each and every one she met with her sweet southern hospitality, mannerism and lovely charm. She was known for making the best cheese dip and sweet tea in the WORLD.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Ed and Maude Black, her sister Chum, her brother Thomas, her brother L.W. and her great-granddaughter Adrianna.

She is survived by her sweetheart and husband Albert; her three children (and spouses/companions) Debbi O’Donohue (Chuck), Tim (Susan), Robbie (pups), her two granddaughters Angie O’Donohue-Singleton (Randy), and Heather Figous (Dave), six great-granddaughters Airianna, Kara, Kylee, Makiyah, Kinsley, and Camari and many nieces, nephews. Her brother in law Bill (Vicki). Cousins Pam Black, Lynn Black, Kevin Black, and Trudy Rhinehart.  

A visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM on Monday, April 8, 2024 at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, MO 64138. A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at Park Lawn Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri.
