Ernest Harris Jr, 94, died peacefully on April 25, 2026, at the Gardens at Barry Road in Kansas City, MO, with family by his side.
Ernest was born on July 7, 1931, in Ozone, Arkansas, to Ernest and Effie Blanch (Perry) Harris. He graduated from Clarksville High School in 1950, where he played basketball and was a member of the FFA. Ernest was united in marriage to Billie Dickinson on January 19, 1951. He served his country by joining the United States Army. He fought in the Korean War in 1953 and received an honorable release from active duty in 1954 as a Sergeant. He and Billie had four children and moved to the Kansas City area, where they raised their family in Pleasant Valley, Mo. Ernest worked for GUYS Foods for 35 years, retiring in 1993.
Following retirement, he and Billie lived in Green Forest, Arkansas, where he served as the county constable. He also began attending church, welcomed Jesus as his savior, and was baptized in May 1997. They remained in Arkansas for many years before returning to the Kansas City area to be closer to their children and grandchildren. He became a member of the American Legion in Holt, MO, when he and Billie moved back to the area. Ernest was a loving, protective, and supportive man who was immensely proud of his family, ensuring each member felt his pride. He was a lifelong fan of the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs! Although baseball was his favorite, he rarely missed watching a game.
Along with his parents and siblings, Ernest was preceded in death by his wife, Billie, his son, Donald Harris, and son-in-law, Jeffery Hale Roberts. He leaves behind to cherish his memory daughters, Delores Neufeld, Mary Kathryn (Kathy) Roberts, Donna VanFosson (Larry); six grandchildren, Jennifer (Scott), Andrea (Ben), Christina (Craig), Alisa (Adam), Sara, and Max (Shelby); eleven great-grandchildren, Grace, Brayden, Brian, Michael, Ryleigh, Haley, Kylie, Karli, Callahan, Violet, and Hayes, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
