EDITH “EDIE” MARIE CARROLL, 90, Independence, MO, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024, at Wilshire at Lakewood Rehab Center. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 27th, with funeral services to follow at 10 a.m., at the Park Lawn Chapel; burial in Green Lawn Cemetery, Kansas City, MO.
Mrs. Carroll was born September 20, 1933, in Belle, MO. She retired from Research Hospital after more than 25 years of service and then re-entered the workforce at the age of 63 as a dialysis nurse for DCI, which was supposed to be on-call or as needed. She ended up working more than 40 hours a week for an additional 17 years, until a month before her 80th birthday when vision problems surfaced and prevented her from performing the job any longer. Mrs. Carroll was an avid reader, known for always having a stack of romance novels lying on the table next to her favorite chair in the living room.
Mrs. Carroll was preceded in death by her parents, John and Laura Glandon; husband Alonzo “Lonnie” Carroll; grandson, Anthony Meunier; sisters, Daisy Scarlett and Shirley Carroll; and, brothers, Bob, James, Eugene, and John Scarlett.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Muenks and her husband, Doug Muenks; granddaughter, Angela Meunier; sisters, Nora Johnson and Dottie Sansoucie; and, several nieces and nephews.
