Edith Mae Foster

September 23, 1932 — June 10, 2023

Kearney, MO

Edith Mae Lee (Grassley) Foster passed peacefully on June 10, 2023 at the age of 90.

She was born to Robert Clark Lee and Robbie Lee (Harbor) Lee in Georgetown, Missouri on September 23, 1932.  She was the eighth of ten children.

She grew up and attended elementary school in Cowgill, MO.  She then attended Jr High at Polo, MO until her family relocated to Kansas City, MO.  She attended East High School in Kansas City, MO.

She married her first husband, Fredrick Oliver Grassley in November 1949.  They were married until Fred passed away in May 1962 while serving as in the United States Army.  During the years they were together, Edith had four children: Michael Eugene, Brenda Joyce, Regina Ann and Mark Steven.

After Edith lost Fred, she raised the four children as a single mother until she met Roy Markus Foster.  They were married in March 1967, and lived in Kansas City, MO until Roy passed away in September 1988.  She worked in the Research Medical Center housekeeping department for 20 years and retired.  But she stayed busy for another 10 years helping at a Hidden Lakes Senior Living complex in Raytown, MO.

She had ten grandchildren: Dana, Michael II, Zachary, Matt, Christopher, Kevin, Ben, David, Danny, and Sara (deceased).  She had 21 great grandchildren ranging in age from 4 to 31.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, her siblings, a son, a daughter and one granddaughter.  She leaves behind one sister, Anna Bell Nelson, her oldest son, Mike and oldest daughter, Brenda, nine grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Edith lived a long life filled with both good times and bad times.  But through it all she persevered and maintained a reasonable sense of humor.  She spent special times with her two daughters on adventures throughout the western states until losing her youngest daughter, Regina.  She stood strong when she lost her husbands, son, daughter, and granddaughter.  She loved working word puzzles, playing cards and attending movies with her close friend Theresa.  Her laugh was unmistakable, and once she started it was a while before she could calm down.

She will be missed.  Rest well mother.
