Our beloved son and brother, Frederick Maurice Hubbard, 47, affectionately known as “Rece,” of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on February 11, 2026.
Maurice was born on August 22, 1978, and was the youngest of three siblings. He graduated from the Metropolitan Advanced Technical High School and completed career training through the Job Corps program at two locations: Salt Lake City, Utah, and Excelsior Springs, Missouri. Maurice worked in various manufacturing roles and spent several years as a highly skilled forklift operator.
Maurice lived by the beat of his own drum. Strong-willed and stubborn at times, he was generous with a big heart and a great sense of humor. Maurice’s curiosity about people and outgoing nature enabled him to connect with people from all walks of life. He was thoughtful, witty, empathetic, and had the most infectious laugh. An avid learner, Maurice enjoyed exploring new ideas and places. A quick study with a strong work ethic, he took great pride in being a dedicated, hardworking person.
Maurice was naturally artistic and passionate about music, especially Hip-Hop in all its forms and Rhythm and Blues. He could talk about music for hours. He particularly loved West Coast and Bay Area hip hop artists and their music. He had a special talent for recognizing the original songs in sampled beats. Music was a way for him to connect with others. When he was younger, he ran a successful mixtape business and DJ'd at a few school dances.
Frederick Maurice Hubbard, our cherished and beloved son and brother, will live on in our hearts forever. He will be deeply missed. He was preceded in his unexpected transition by his mother, Kathalyn E. Hubbard; his grandmothers, Margaret Hubbard and Edith Lewis; his grandfathers, Kirby Hubbard and Rayford Lewis; his paternal aunt, Thelma Jimmerson; and his cousins, Kelly and Kirsten. He is survived by his father, Frederick K. Hubbard, and his sisters Kim Hubbard and Carmen Hubbard. He is also survived by his paternal and maternal uncles and a host of cousins.
To celebrate our beloved “Rece,” we will hold a private family gathering. Thank you for the prayers and outpouring of love. We appreciate your respect for our family’s privacy during this difficult time.
