George Francis Hanley III, 81, of Lenexa, Kansas passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026. He was born in Brooklyn, New York to the late George and Anne (Gelardi) Hanley on June 20, 1944.
George graduated from the College of William and Mary and went on to serve in the United States Army, during Vietnam earning the rank of Captain before he was honorably discharged. He met his wife Victoria, in Washington DC where they both worked and had a 4 year long distance courtship until their marriage in 1977. Work brought them to the Kansas City area where George served as the Chief Public Affairs Officer for the Army Corp of Engineers; a job he loved and was very good at. He had numerous hobbies throughout his life including freelance writing, woodworking, the arts, photography, car repair, home maintenance and loved tinkering with things. He never hesitated to reach out with advice or to help someone in need.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 49 years Victoria, children Kate (Bryan) Vastano, Chip (Marie) Hanley and Greg (Courtney) Hanley; 4 grandchildren Rocco, Royce and Juliette Vastano and Reyna Hanley. He is also survived by his brother Joseph (Kathy) Hanley and sister Bonnie (Jim) Henderson.
A memorial mass will be Friday, March 27, 2026 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lenexa, Kansas at 10:30 AM with a gathering beginning at 9:30 AM.
