George Louis Morton (also affectionately known as “Joe Louis”) was born in the Armourdale neighborhood of Kansas City, Ks., on September 4,1934, to the union of Joseph Marshall and Mazie Mae Morton. The family moved to Kansas City, Mo., when George was a year old. George received his education in the Kansas City, Mo school district. He also completed classes at Penn Valley Community College. George started working by carrying ice at the age of 7. As a child and young adult, he also made time to indulge in the sport of boxing as a member of the Gateway boxing gym. He later started working on construction at the age of 16 as a union member of Local 264. At the age of 19, he joined the United States Army and served from 1953 to 1956. During his service, he was stationed in Germany. He was very fond of his time in the Army, and more specifically, his time spent in Germany. After returning from the Army, he resumed his career in construction. He was very proud of his career. Some of the notable projects, in the Kansas City area, that he worked on included the west bottoms flood cleanup of 1951, building curves along 31street, working on building the KCI airport, and the Hyatt Regency Hotel, just to name a few. He also worked for Lexington Plumbing company and Corbin Construction. At the end of his career, he worked as a maintenance man at the Local 264 Union Hall located at the corner of 35th and main in Kansas City, Mo. He also valued this job and worked hard for years to earn it. He retired at the age of 62, and remained a dedicated member of Local 264 until his passing for a total of 69 years. He received numerous service awards and accolades over the years from Local 264. George also explored being an entrepreneur with a trash route and Roto Rooter service. As a jack of all trades, he was proficient in plumbing and electrical work. He also was a good automotive mechanic.

George married Tommie Jean Sneed in 1961, and to this union, his first son, Tyrone Morton, was born. This marriage was later dissolved. His second child, his first daughter, Tina Charles, was born to a union with Dorthula Charles in 1966. George then married Alice Wright in 1967, and to this union, his second son, Joseph Morton and second daughter, Janice Morton were born in 1969 and 1971 respectfully. George and Alice remained married for 58 years until his transition.

George had a reputation as a skilled boxer and fighter. Members of the family would recall how good he was at fighting and boxing in the streets and in the ring. He always carried himself with dignity, pride, and integrity. He was a man that gave respect and demanded respect in return. He was a very strong, independent, and no-nonsense individual, while still maintaining a gentle and loving side. He also had a clever and witty sense of humor. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading history books (more specifically about war history and organized crime families), watching war documentaries (World War II era), and watching history and classic movie channels. He also enjoyed watching a variety of nature shows and documentaries and was very intrigued by the Big Cat segments. He also really enjoyed watching sports which included boxing, MMA, football, and baseball. In his earlier years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and jogging.
