Gerald Michael Ingram, who went by “Mike”, a beloved father, grandfather, son and brother, passed away at Northpoint Skilled Nursing on July 15, 2023 following a long illness. He was born to Gerald and Beverly (Carey) Ingram on Veterans Day in 1964 at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Kansas City. He came into the world as a marching band was playing The Stars and Stripes Forever across the street at the Liberty Memorial, perhaps inspiring his lifelong love of music.
Mike was extremely intelligent, testing “Genius” level on IQ tests as a child, but also battling ADHD and Dyslexia before schools made special accommodations for these conditions, which made conventional education a challenge for him. He was either bored in the class or had trouble interpreting the lesson, but he persevered and earned his high school diploma. As a child, he could take things apart, such as televisions, radios and the like, then would put them back together, just to see how they operated. In his younger years he played baseball and later softball in adult leagues. He was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals and when He was 10, much to his parents’ chagrin, nailed up on his bedroom walls about a hundred of his favorite baseball cards. He taught himself to play the guitar, a hobby that fulfilled him throughout his years. Mike had a great love of riding motorcycles inspired by a Honda given to him by an uncle when he was 12. In adulthood, he loved Harley Davidson motorcycles before it was so popular to do so and rode a rebuilt antique Harley. You rarely saw him without his black leather jacket and motorcycle boots, and if you did, he was wearing Chiefs attire.
Mike married Suzanne Bruce in 1996 with whom he had three children, Jacob, Scott and Lexie. He worked various jobs to support his family. His children meant everything to him.
Mike is survived by his father Gerald “Jerry” Ingram of the home, who took loving care of him throughout his illness; his children Jacob Ingram (Lucy) of Olathe, KS, Scott Ingram (Katelyn) of Independence, MO and Lexie Torneten (Aden) of Omaha, NE; his Grandchildren, Joseph and Natalie; his sister Sheila (Doug) Doherty of Paola; a niece, aunts, uncles, cousins and other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Beverly Ingram, of whom we are certain was there to greet him when he arrived.
A visitation will begin at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Paola, Kansas at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 with a funeral mass immediately following. Interment will follow the funeral service at 1:00 pm at Green Lawn Cemetery, 8251 Hillcrest Rd., Kansas City, MO 64138.
