Grant Rice

July 26, 1978 — October 21, 2025

Kansas City, Missouri

Grant Rice was born on July 26, 1978, in Kansas City, Missouri. From a young age, Grant was drawn to rhythm, words, and the power of expression. What began as curiosity and creativity soon grew into a lifelong passion that would define his journey and inspire everyone who heard his music.

Grant was also an incredible baseball player and pitcher, known for his strong arm, competitive spirit, and love of the game. The same drive and focus he brought to the mound carried over into every part of his life—his music, his family, and his friendships.

He began rapping in high school, where his sharp wit and talent for freestyle quickly set him apart. He loved battling classmates in friendly competitions, and his undeniable skill eventually led him to meet and work with Tech N9ne, helping shape the sound that would put Kansas City hip-hop on the map. His quick mind, lyrical flow, and rhythmic originality captivated crowds and earned him deep respect in the local and national music scene.

In his later years, Grant poured his heart into his independent album, Grant Rice & The Empire, a reflection of his growth, vision, and creative legacy.

Grant was a warrior—not only in the physical sense, but in spirit. He faced life’s challenges with courage, heart, and an unbreakable will. Even when life knocked him down, he stood back up. He fought for what he loved and believed in. He was a leader, a man of passion, and a soldier in every sense of the word. His strength and perseverance inspired those around him and will continue to do so forever.

More than an artist, Grant was a storyteller. His lyrics reflected the struggles, strength, and soul of real life. His dedication to his craft earned him the admiration of his peers and fans alike—but it was his humility, loyalty, and heart that left the deepest mark.

Above all, Grant found his greatest joy and purpose in being a father. His children—Anthony, Kayne, and Lilly—were the center of his world. He spoke of them often, loved them fiercely, and took immense pride in watching them grow. His love for them was unwavering and will continue to surround them always.

Grant will forever be remembered for his music, his devotion as a father, and his loyalty as a friend. His laughter, his energy, and his spirit were contagious. Kansas City lost a voice—but heaven gained a song.

He is survived by his beautiful and loving children, Anthony Palacio-Rice, Kayne Rice, and Lilly Rice; and their mother, Nikky Rice, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond and everlasting love; his parents, Yolanda and Paul Rice; his siblings, Vincent Rice and wife Julie, John Rice and wife Andrea, and Jessica LaSalle and husband James; as well as several cherished nieces and nephews who adored their Tío Grant.
