Harvey West

Harvey Lee West, 98, passed away peacefully at his home in Kansas City, MO on June 12, 2025 with his daughters at his side.

Harvey was born January 13, 1927 in Upland, California to Sylvester West and Ruby Amason.

After the death of his father, he was moved to Williamsburg, Kentucky to live with family. He worked at Williamsburg Clothing Co. until he joined the Navy in September 1944, where he served as, Seaman, 1st Class during World War II on the U.S.S. Bronx. During his service, he was awarded the American Theater Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal and the Victory Medal. He was Honorably discharged in July 1946.

On February 14, 1950, he married Edith Ann Melton. They shared three children, Paula H. Fiumano, Harvey Gene West, and LaDeena A. Holcomb (Brion)

In 1956, Harvey began his lifelong career in Income Tax Preparation. He worked for various individuals before opening his own business, Harvey West Bookkeeping & Tax Service in Kansas City, MO. In total, he was in the tax business for 60 years.

On October 7, 1988, he married Marjorie Betty Dake. Together, they had many friends in which they enjoyed countless adventures. They traveled frequently and had plenty of stories to tell. Eventually, they purchased a second home at the Lake of the Ozarks where they gained many more friends and enjoyed fishing, boating and neighborhood parties.

From his union with Betty, he gained 8 more children. Robert Keys (Diane), Linda Stevens, Debbie Becker (Larry), Sue Lyon(Mark), Donna Young (Russell), Dan Keys (Kari), Kathy Sanders and Lori Weant (Mike).

He had 24 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

He will be missed immensely! His magnetic personality and smile were two of his greatest assets.

Harvey was preceded in death by: his parents, brother: Wilbur, former wife, son-in-law’s: Santo Fiumano and William Stevens

Funeral Services will be held at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd, Kansas City, MO.

Visitation: Thursday 12pm-1pm, Funeral Service 1pm-2pm
