Hazel Marie Davidson

Hazel Robertson Davidson, age 84, of Liberty, Missouri, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on November 28, 1940, in Butler, Missouri, to Jack and Pearl Robertson. Hazel graduated from Butler High School in 1957, and soon after, her life was forever changed when she met William “Bill” Davidson on a blind date arranged by family friends. They married on Valentine’s Day in 1959. Three days later, Bill was deployed with the U.S. Army to Germany, Hazel bravely followed two months later. It was there, overseas, that they welcomed their first child, Bob. In 1961, they settled in Clay County, Missouri, where they had two more children Deana and Steve, it remained their home ever since.

Hazel worked at Betty’s Hallmark where she made lifelong friends. Her time here marked the beginning of a family tradition of her and Bill gifting Hallmark ornaments to all family members at Christmas time. Every October, they hosted their yearly bonfires and hayrides on their land, inviting both their family as well as hosting their church community, all enjoyed making memories.

Hazel was a devoted homemaker whose greatest joy was found in caring for her family. She was known for her generosity and deep faith. She had a gift for making others feel seen, heard, and supported—offering both a listening ear and heartfelt advice when it was needed most. Friends often described her bright smile and joyful laugh.

A long-time member of Liberty United Methodist Church since 1968, Hazel was active in countless ministries. She led the church’s baking efforts with unmatched dedication, volunteered for the St. Mary’s food kitchen in Kansas City, and served on the first Saturday of every month for nearly 20 years. She was a proud member of the Quilters Prayer Committee, and her faith took her on mission trips to Jamaica, post-hurricane recovery in New Orleans, and four trips to South Dakota to support Native American restoration efforts. She also served as president of the Mosby School Board and was a baker for the Liberty School District.

Hazel loved gardening, quilting, cooking, canning, and traveling—especially overseas trips and cruises with Bill. Her kitchen was the heart of the home, and she was especially known for her rice rolls, tea rings, and, most famously, her pickles and jellies. Her grandchildren adored her, and she was a shining example of what it meant to be a grandmother—loving, playful and always ready with something sweet (or savory!) from her kitchen.

Hazel is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, William “Bill” Davidson; their children: Bob (Rita) Davidson, Deana Love, and Steve (Debbie) Davidson; brother William Major Robertson; nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Pearl Robertson and four siblings.

Family and friends are invited to honor Hazel’s memory at the Liberty United Methodist Church, located at 1001 Sunset Ave., Liberty, MO 64068. A visitation will take place on Monday, June 30, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, followed by a memorial service at 12:30 PM. Hazel’s ashes will then be placed at Glenridge Cemetery, located at B Hwy & Shepard Rd., Liberty, MO 64068.
