Obituary

Hubert Donald Altis was born on December 6, 1933, at the farm home 4 miles North of Cabool, Missouri on a cold, snowy morning. The family moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1942, then to Los Angeles, California, back to Kansas City, back to Cabool, then to Mountain Grove, Missouri where Hubert graduated from high school. After high school, in 1951, Hubert moved to Kansas City where he entered the apprenticeship program at International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union #124, of which he was a proud member the rest of his life. Hubert was also a 32-degree York Rite Mason, being a member of Liberty Lodge #31 for more than 65 years. Hubert, as a young man, accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a long-time member of Liberty (Manor) Baptist Church serving as Deacon, Sunday School Director, and Church Moderator. After moving to Kansas City, Missouri in 1951, he met a young lady from California, Missouri by the name of Norma Hays. Apparently, they got along very well as they were married on April 18, 1954, and it lasted for almost 70 years until Norma’s passing. To this union were born two sons, Donald Ray and David Paul. Hubert was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Altis, his mother and father, Esther and Paul Altis, his siblings, Ada Hilderbrand, Emmett Altis, and Fay Noah, Two granddaughters, Megan and Melanie Altis. He is survived by his two sons, Don (Holly), David (Linda), 3 Grandchildren, 9 Great-grandchildren, and 1 Great-great-grandchild. He spent the last few years of his life at his namesake, Huey’s on the Square, drinking coffee and working crossword puzzles.
