Hugh Preston Wilson

March 30, 1934 — August 15, 2023

Liberty

Our beloved Hugh Preston Wilson, age 89, a long-time resident of Liberty, MO, passed away on August 15, 2023, at Our Lady of Mercy Country Home. He was born on March 30, 1934, in Barnes, Arkansas, to Allen Leslie and Ona Wilson. Known to family and friends as Preston, he married the love of his life Ramona (Monie) on July 25, 1953, and she preceded him in death on April 4, 2006. He is also preceded in death by his parents and multiple siblings (Woodrow, Harold, Haskell, Irene Serpilio, Fay Sanders, Ruby Cox and Virgie Mooney) as well as his eldest daughter Donna Lentz of Liberty, MO.

Preston is survived by daughters Christi (Les) Dudrey and Lori (Ken) Tajchman, both of Liberty, MO; six grandchildren: Dustin (Karen) Lentz, Dezri Lentz, Lindsey Dudrey Wilson (Derek), Brenna Jameson Dean (Zach), Mo Tajchman and Ivan Tajchman; seven great grandchildren (Josephine, Annabelle, Alex, Roman, Rory, Braelyn and Zachary); and by his younger brother Billie Wilson of Ft Worth, TX, and many more relatives and friends.

At the mere age of 16, Preston served in the United States Army. His penchant for math and research and his willingness to do the hard work took him far in his career in chemicals at Chemagro/Mobay/Bayer. He spent nearly a third of his lifetime in active retirement, enjoying woodworking, golf outings, monthly retiree luncheons, local and Canadian fishing trips and spending time with family and friends.

Born on Good Friday and nicknamed “The Saint” by his mother-in-law, Preston was a friend with many and never met a stranger. He always had a story to share or a joke to tell, and he loved entertaining a captive audience.

Preston’s last days were spent actively visiting with family, friends, and staff from Our Lady of Mercy, exchanging stories, hugs, laughs and tears. May he be as at-home and loved on the other side as he was here on earth. He will be missed.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm, followed by a service celebrating Preston’s life at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, August 19, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, I-35 at State Route 291, Liberty, MO. Burial will follow at Glenridge Cemetery.
