Ingrid Dema

Ingrid Dema, 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 16, 2025. She was born on November 5, 1941, in Munich, Germany, to Albert and Elsa Horwig.

Ingrid’s life was one filled with devotion to family, love, and resilience. On November 21, 1960, she married the love of her life, Sazan, after a whirlwind courtship in Munich. At just 21 years old, she and Sazan embarked on a new chapter in America. By 1968, their family had grown to four children, and Ingrid embraced her role as both an Army wife and devoted mother, often managing the household on her own while Sazan served his country. Over 65 years of marriage, Ingrid created a home wherever life’s many moves took them.

She was known for her warm spirit and incredible skills in the kitchen. You never left her home hungry. At Christmas, friends and family eagerly awaited her endless trays of cookies, while her German bread and Black Forest cake became cherished family traditions that her grandchildren now carry forward. Ingrid also found joy in her craft of crocheting, lovingly creating blankets and hats for countless babies, as well as each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nothing brought her greater happiness than sharing her talents with those she loved.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Justin Sollohub, who was killed in the line of duty in 2011, her parents, and her only brother, Albert Horwig.

Ingrid is survived by her husband, Sazan, of the home; her children, Janette (Jeff) Oliver of Zachary, Louisiana; Jeff (Anne) Dema of Liberty, Missouri; and Janice (Darrell) Hinkley of The Woodlands, Texas. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her grandchildren: Jessica (David) Harvey (South Carolina), Jeremy (Ashley) Oliver (Florida), Stephany (Thomas) Harbin (Alabama), Matt (Taylor) Hinkley (Arizona), Todd (Megan) Hinkley (Missouri), Ryan (Madison) Hinkley (Virginia), Allison Hinkley (Texas), Emily (Matt) Trickett (United Kingdom), Catherine Dema (Pennsylvania), and Luke Dema (Missouri). She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren who brought her immeasurable joy.

A Celebration of Life will be at 10:00am Saturday September 20, 2025 at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 1640 Route 291 Highway, Liberty, MO 64068. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.       https://www.stjude.org
