Irma Mae Grant of Kansas City, Missouri passed away at Brookdale Senior Living in Leawood, Kansas at 6am in the morning on Wednesday, May 13th, 2026 after spending the evening with her loving husband and dearest family.

Irma, (82 years young) was affectionately known to her closest family and friends as “Toots”, and was born on Wednesday, March 15th, 1944 in Waltonville, Illinois to Willie “Bill” and Effie (Beckham) Morgan. She married her faithful companion of almost 65 years, James Grant on July 20th, 1961 somewhere on the side of a beautiful country road in Southern Illinois, next to a big 4H sign. 

Irma spent her entire life caring for her family and home as well as working several corporate jobs in the 80’s and 90’s. Like most Morgan girls, Irma lived her life with a fiery spirit, commanding the center of the room, telling tall tales, and laughing loudly. Irma loved and cared for everyone she ever met. 

Irma is lovingly survived by her husband, James Grant of Kansas City; her daughter, Lisa Carter, and husband Dave Carter of Kansas City; her son, Ralph Grant, and wife Julie Grant of St. Louis; granddaughter Morgan Shankles and husband Greg Shankles of Kansas City; and grandsons James and Wyatt Grant of St. Louis and dozens of nieces and nephews. 

Irma has been the last surviving member of her generation of 17 children since 2014. She was proceeded in death by her parents, her nine brothers: Roy, Burton, Jim, Ray, Robert “Lewis”, Dan, Irvin, Ira, and Billy Joe, and her seven sisters: Lucille Griffin, Maggie Farris, Mildred Mays, Dorothy Mays, Lillian Daily, Virginia “Ginger” Hamilton, and Gloria McNeal. 

There will be a visitation and celebration of life at Parklawn Funeral Home (8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, MO 64138) on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.
