James J. Prather

James Joseph Prather 93, of Independence, Missouri passed away on August 29, 2026. He was born January 7, 1933, in Hoisington, Kansas to the late Joseph W. and Teresa Elizabeth (Hoelscher) Prather.

He was a proud member of Sheet Metal Workers Local #2; he proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In 1956 he married the love of his life Marion Helen (Kent) Prather. In his retirement he enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family.

James leaves behind one daughter Susan C. Prather, four Sons: Joseph K. Prather, Michael S. Prather, Kenneth E. Prather, and Patrick R. Prather. He has 17 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his wife, and two stepsons Bob L. Robeson and James John Prather.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 10 A.M. at Parklawn Funeral Home Funeral service will follow at 11 A.M. Interment with military honors will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. If you desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association www.ALZ.org in James’ memory.
