Janis Lee Richardson, Age 78

Passed peacefully July 31, 2026.

Janis was born July 21, 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri.

Parents Kent M. Strodtman, Norma Lee (Williams) Strodtman.

Janis graduated from Belton High School in 1966 and worked at Sears for 28 years.

Married to Herman Richardson on October 31, 1974. They lived in Independence on a dead end street across from the cemetery, they had the best Halloween parties. Upon Herman’s passing she moved to Belton, Mo.

Janis loved sharing her talents in ceramics, crafting, sewing and cooking with all her friends and family. Her greatest joy was giving what she made to people. Everyone wanted to be on the fudge list during the holidays. Aunt Janie taught all the nieces and nephews how to do ceramics and make ornaments.

Proceeded in death by her parents Kent & Norma Strodtman, Husband Herman Richardson, Sister Sandra Summers, Nephew Jason Ford, and Neice Amanda Petersen.

Janis is survived by her siblings Sharon Shelley, Kathleen Gutowski, William Strodtman (Wife Marilyn), Emma Louise Grooms, Lisa Petersen, Cheryl Drydale, Neal Strodtman (Wife Debbie), Gail Barton (Husband Randy). Many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm, followed by a service honoring Janis’s life at 2:00 pm, on Friday August 28, at Park Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 8251 Hillcrest Rd, Kansas City, Mo. Burial will follow after service at Park Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a memorial contribution to your Senior Center.
