Jeanie "Shirley Jean" Gibson

Jeanie “Shirley Jean” Gibson, 67, of Platte Woods, Mo., passed away peacefully at 8:03 am on December 19, 2023 from Kidney Cancer.  Jeanie fought hard to beat Kidney Cancer and is now at peace, resting in the arms of angels. 

Jeanie attended Lawson High School, class of 1974, where she was the salutatorian of her graduating class, and a member of many organizations, such as Class Vice-President, Future Homemakers of America, Pep Club, National Honors Society, Yearbook Staff, Newspaper Staff, and Girls Chorus. She recounts so many fond memories of her times there, and the life-long friendships she formed.

Jeanie retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City, a company she was proud to work for, and a career which spawned many additional friendships that she treasured. Jeanie loved to cook and was an avid baker; making birthday and wedding cakes for her children, family, and friends, gave her such joy!

Jeanie was the daughter of Shirley (Stamper) and Sterling Cornelius, of Kansas City, Mo., who preceded her in death, as well as her late sister, Carey Martin. She leaves behind her husband, Barry Gibson, of Platte Woods, Mo., two daughters, Melissa and Marie Godley, of Kansas City, Mo., and grandson Parker King. She is also survived by her sister, Sandy (Dan) Hultgren, nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunt Lotus Hart, and many cousins. Our collective hearts are heavy; she will be dearly missed.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 am followed by a service celebrating Jeanie’s life at 10:00 am Friday, December 22, 2023 at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, 1640 N M-291 Hwy, Liberty, MO. Burial will follow in Glenridge Cemetery, 2450 County Road B, Liberty, MO. Pallbearers are Barry Gibson, Parker King, Dan Hultgren, Allen Reed, Trenton Reed, Brant Campbell and Summer Reed. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be considered for the National Kidney Foundation, and the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
