Jerry C Grimes, 81, of Independence, Mo, passed away October 21,2025 at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence.
Jerry was born December 14,1943 in Bates County, Mo to William Ivan “Peanut” Grimes and Ruth Maxine Cox Grimes.
Jerry grew up on a farm in Henry County, Mo and graduated from Urich High School. He left for the Army National Guard immediately after graduating.
He was a millwright by trade and retired from Western Electric.
Jerry was raised Master Mason in 1986 and was a 39th year member of Summit Lodge 263. He joined Ararat Shrine Temple in 1987. He was a member of several Shrine clubs and several Shrine Units, too many to list. He could always be found at a Shrine event or at the Temple volunteering.
Jerry was a women's softball coach, guiding them all the way to Florida for a national championship and his team was sponsored by Budweiser. He was very proud of his team and stayed in touch with them until the end.
Jerry wore many hats such as friend, mentor, coach, brother, etc, but his favorite ones to wear were Dad and Papa. He loved his daughter and grandchildren unconditionally. There was never a game, school event, or family event that he didn't go too.
Jerry made a deep impact on everyone he met. There was never a stranger when he was around. His gift of giving was always an atomic fire ball and a cigar. His infectious laugh and smile will be missed by many.
Jerry is survived by his daughter Gretchen (Scott), four grandchildren Ashton, Jayce, Ireland and Dayton, and 2 great grandsons.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, William Ivan “Peanut” Grimes and Ruth Maxine Cox Grimes and his “baby” brother William Allen Grimes.
Celebration of life will be Sunday, November 9 at 2:00 pm at Ararat Shrine Temple in Blue Springs Mo. Military honors will follow Masonic Services.
