Obituary

"It is with a profound sense of loss, yet immense gratitude for a life well-lived, that we announce the passing of Joan Formby Kline. Born in Kansas City, MO, on March 29, 1941, Joan departed this world peacefully on October 9, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

"Joan was the cherished daughter of Frank and Ruth Formby, and she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert Kline, and son, David Kline. Her memory lives on through her devoted daughters, Diana (Kline) Harris and her husband Duane, Debbie Kline, and Donna (Kline) Larsen and her husband Bob. Joan was the proud grandmother to two grandchildren, Nathan Harris and Kayla Harris, and a great-grandmother to one precious great-grandchild.

"Joan and Robert Kline shared a marriage of almost 50 years that began on June 3, 1961. Education was a significant part of Joan's life. She graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1959 and later earned an Associate's Degree in Social Services from Longview Community College in 1991.

"Her career was marked by an unwavering dedication to service and care. She served as an Activity Director at John Knox Village, a Unit Secretary at Park Lane Hospital, and a Teacher's Aide at Missouri state schools for the severely disabled, including Trails West, Lakeview Woods, and Maple Valley. She was a Study Hall Supervisor at Blue Ridge Christian School. Joan also lent her talents as an accompanist to choirs at Raytown High School and Blue Ridge Christian School. Her passion for music was evident through her 50 years as a church pianist and a private piano teacher in the home.

"Joan was an active member of Spring Valley Baptist Church (REACH Raytown) and previously of Blue Ridge Bible Church. She was a long-standing member of the Kansas City Federated Music Teachers Association and the Kansas City Music Teachers Association from 1959 to 2000. Her dedication extended beyond music; she established and directed the Fine Arts Division of the Jackson County Special Olympics, reflecting her commitment to inclusivity and community support.

"Joan's life was a testament to her faith and her love for sharing it with others. She delighted in studying the Bible, playing the piano, and supporting the Special Olympics. Her generosity knew no bounds, especially in how she selflessly gave her time and talents to minister to others' needs. Joan prioritized spending time with her family and friends.

"A service to celebrate Joan's remarkable life will be held on October 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Park Lawn Funeral Home, located at 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, MO, with a viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m. Her chapel service will be immediately followed by a graveside service.

"In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the KC Hospice House, honoring Joan's compassionate spirit and legacy of caring for others and recognizing the remarkable end-of-life care that their volunteers provided to her.

"Joan's life was a symphony of love, service, and faith. She touched countless lives, leaving a melody that will be cherished by all who knew her."
