JoAnne M. Frei Shute, 95, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully at Research Medical Center on December 26, 2025.
JoAnne graduated from Southwest High School. She attended Stephen’s College in Columbia, MO, where she earned a degree in Fine Arts. JoAnne loved to paint and in her early years, she was a concert pianist. JoAnne went on to earn her Court Reporting degree while raising four children. She worked for the State of Missouri as a court reporter for the Workers’ Compensation Court. She also worked full time as a Medical Transcriber at Baptist Medical Center. JoAnne retired from the State of Missouri after 35 plus years of service.
JoAnne loved her family and enjoyed spending time with family. Faith was a big part of JoAnne’s life. She belonged to the Life Church and loved her church family.
JoAnne was born on October 13, 1930 to Otto and Muriel Frei, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Donald Frei, her son, Daniel Shute, a daughter, Susan Elizabeth Truitt, and a grandson, D.J. Shute.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Shute (Rhoda) and David Shute (Joy), daughter-in-law, Tasheena Miller, seven grandchildren, Ryan Shute, Casey Shute (Melissa), Parker Shute (Nazli), Jacob Shute (Nicole), Matt Shute (Deanna), Shane Miller, and Ben Beauleu, 17 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 12:00pm, followed by services at 1:00pm Monday, January 5, 2026 at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City MO 64138. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery.
