John Allen Adkins, age 70, passed away surrounded by loved ones on September 2, 2026. Born and raised in Raytown, Missouri, John was a 1974 graduate of Raytown South High School.

John was always a father first, he was a dedicated grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend; he spent his life taking care of and pouring into his loved ones in any way he could. A self-taught engineer and fixer, he was always the first to problem-solve and fix whatever needed fixing, no matter who needed it. His family knew he was going to show up for them, John was at every band concert, ball game, and celebration. With love, he carried on his father’s tradition of building hand-crafted toddler chairs for each new member of the family.

John had a selfless soul and an unmatched work ethic. His love for the outdoors spanned a lifetime of campouts, fishing trips, and hiking adventures, including many weekends at the family cabin in the Ozarks. He became a Mic-O-Say scout and led his grandson, Kaleb, from a cub to an eagle scout, marking one of his proudest moments.

John is survived by his daughter, Jett Adkins and grandson, Kaleb Adkins; siblings, Sue Romine, Tom Adkins (wife Ann), and twin sister JoAnn Farmer (husband Rod); along with many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mary Jane Adkins and his brother-in-law Mike Romine.

A celebration of John’s life will be held on Friday, November 6th from 2:30pm to 4:30pm at Park Lawn Memorial Park, 8251 Hillcrest Rd KC, Mo. All are welcome to attend and join us in honoring his memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the UMKC Conservatory in John’s honor.
