On February 24, 2026, John Franklin Herbison Jr. passed peacefully and went to reunite with his beloved wife, Sharon, and family members who preceded him in death.John was born on April 2, 1949, to John Franklin Herbison Sr. and Doris V. (Aldridge) Herbison. He attended Wyandotte County High School, where he graduated in 1967.
As a young man, he worked in his family’s business, Karl’s Bakery in Kansas City, Kansas, where he made many fond memories that stayed with him throughout his life. John proudly served his country in the United States Navy across a long and dedicated military career. His military service was a source of great pride and reflected his dedication and commitment to others.
He was also a member of VFW Post #56 in DeSoto, Kansas, where he valued the camaraderie of fellow veterans. Above all, John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved his family deeply and treasured time spent with his children, grandchildren, and extended family.
Those who knew John will remember his loyalty, strength, steady presence, and his enduring sense of humor that could lighten even difficult moments. John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sharon K. Herbison, and his parents.
He is survived by his daughter, Leslie (Eric) Flowers of Overland Park, Kansas; honorary son and nephew-in-law, Christian B. Sherrick (Joan) of Overland Park, Kansas; stepdaughters, Jacqueline (Daniel) Gutridge of Blue Springs, Missouri, and Beverly (Lynn) Herrington of DeSoto, Kansas; along with many cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Green Lawn Cemetery, 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64138. Family and friends are invited to gather at Park Lawn Funeral Home prior to the service, where a brief procession will follow to the gravesite.
