John ‘Jack’ Forest Shawver, age 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday May 18, 2025 at his home. He was born on April 3, 1937 in Kansas City, MO to Joe ‘Forest’ and Nita (Rawlings) Shawver. After graduating from Central High School, he was drafted into the Army.
After returning home, he attended school to become an electrician. He was a proud Union member of IBEW Local 124. He was an electrician for 41 years and retired in 1999. He was married for 23 years to Judith ‘Judy’ (Hash-Holland) Shawver and they had two sons, Jon and Brian. She had a son, Jeff Holland, who he welcomed with open arms. Jack enjoyed coaching his sons in sports. He loved to travel and along with his son, Brian they had been to all the MLB teams stadiums. He travelled all over the United States and even up into Canada. He enjoyed putting together puzzles, doing crosswords, and playing card games. He was an avid stamp collector. He enjoyed watching TV and sports and doing yard work. He had an eclectic taste in music, with jazz being his top choice and he always enjoyed listening to live music. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his brother Bill Shawver, his son Jon Shawver, and the mother of his sons, Judy Hoesly.
He is survived by his son Brian Shawver, stepson Jeff (Tami) Holland, daughter in law Heather Shawver, and granddaughters Ashley Holland, Elyssa and Jana Shawver. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at 1:00 pm and then services will begin at 2:00 pm at Park Lawn Funeral Home on Hillcrest Road. Feel free to wear your favorite KC sports team apparel. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Kidney foundation, or the Heart foundation.
