Obituary

Judith "Elaine" Dalton (Jones) 88 passed away peacefully on May 14th, 2026. She was born August 26th, 1937, to Melvin Roy Jones and Lloree Montez (McVey) in Kansas City, MO.

She was one of the first 10 women to have ever been hired by the Kansas City Missouri Police Department. She was hired in 1972 and started in patrol before moving on into other units through her 25-year career with the department. She spent many years in Crimes Against Persons as well as the Youth Division. She had the honor to be invited to the National FBI Academy in Quantico, VA for several months of training, again as one of the first women to do so. She ended her career with the KCPD as Detective/ Investigator Judith "Elaine" Dalton.

She was a single mother at the age of 19 who was dedicated to making sure her only child and daughter was always safe. She never remarried.

She was an active and dedicated member of 10th Church Christ Scientist in the northland, eventually becoming 2nd Reader for several years then being elected to 1st Reader which requires an enormous amount study and dedication in itself, again for several years. She served on the Board of Directors, volunteered to be responsible for the flower arrangements for the church, as well as volunteering at the Reading Room for a number of years.

She was very talented in many areas of different crafts projects. She did rug tufting, pretty punch, lead glass projects, and many oil paintings on canvass following in her mother's footsteps.

She is preceded in death by her parents and a very beloved great "Aunt Ed" (Edna May Colby) whom she lived with for several years growing up.

She is survived by her only child, a daughter, Kathy Lynn Eaton (Dalton) of Raymore, MO and her sister Mary L. Gant of Jefferson City, MO, Missouri's first woman state senator who served 3 terms in Missouri's House of Representatives before being elected to the senate.

The funeral is scheduled for May 22nd, 2026, at Park Lawn Funeral Home in KCMO 87th and Hillcrest Rd at 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
