Kathleen Shanks

Kathleen May Shanks, age 88, of Gladstone, passed away August 7, 2025.

Kathleen was born June 17, 1937, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Joseph and Dorothy Shelby. She was a devoted mother who worked as a line worker at Daisy for more than 20 years before the company closed and later at Walmart in Gladstone for 12 years. Kathleen and her husband, Herbert Shanks, shared a true and enduring love; they could always been seen simply sitting together, hand in hand on the couch.

She is survived by her daughter Mary Kay Bailey (John), son Michael, four grandchildren and extended family Jim Erickson. She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert Shanks, parents, sister and extended family Tom Fisher.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 13, from 5 to 7 PM at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, 1640 N. M-291 Hwy, Liberty, MO. The next morning, on Thursday, August 14, a rosary will be said at 10 AM., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 4737 N. Cleveland, Kansas City, MO. A luncheon of friends and remembrance at the Church will immediately follow. Kathleen will then be escorted in procession to Mount Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, KS, to be laid next to Herb. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Gabriel Catholic Church.

She is deeply missed by all who knew her, but we take comfort in knowing she’s once again holding Herb’s hand in Heaven.
