Kathryn Lawana Payne, lovingly known as Lawana, passed away surrounded by love, leaving behind a family who will forever cherish her memory. She lived a life rooted in family, quiet service to others and the simple joys that brought her happiness.
Lawana was preceded in death by both her parents and husband, Paul Payne. She was a beloved mother of three children—Michael Perry, Michelle Brown, and Rebecca Payne—and she saw and appreciated each of their individual strengths. She was also a proud grandmother and great-grandmother, all of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
Lawana devoted much of her life to her home and family as a homemaker. In addition, she spent many years working seasonally as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army during the Christmas season—a simple but meaningful act of service that reflected her giving heart and love of the holidays. She was also a devoted member of Home League, where her faith and fellowship were an important part of her life.
She was a longtime and dedicated member of TOPS, where she formed deep friendships that meant a great deal to her over the years. Those relationships provided connection, laughter, and support.
In her younger years, Lawana loved music, dancing and “gadding about,” enjoying the freedom and joy those moments brought her. As she grew older, she found happiness in long drives, shopping and decorating for every holiday—turning her home into a place of warmth, color and celebration.
Lawana will be remembered for her steady presence, her laughter, her love for family, her holiday spirit and the quiet ways she showed care for others. Her memory lives on through the generations she helped shape and the lives she touched along the way.
