Dennis “Wayne” Kerns

Dennis "Wayne" Kerns, 72, of the Kansas City Northland, entered his Heavenly Home on May 12, 2021. He passed away surrounded by loved ones and the devoted staff at NorthCare Hospice House.

Wayne was born February 2, 1949, in Kansas City, Missouri, the younger of two children of Jesse and Hilda (Simmons) Kerns. He grew up in the Kansas City Northland and graduated from North Kansas City High School. He also received a degree from Maple Woods Community College.

Wayne was united in marriage to Debra Lynn Keck on November 10, 1979, at Avondale Baptist Church. They have two children, Megan and Jesse and were preceded by an infant daughter, Robin Marie.

Wayne was a devoted Christian and lifelong member of Avondale Baptist Church, now Solid Rock Bible Church. He served many years as a Sunday school teacher and played and coached on the church's softball team.

Wayne leaves his wife of 41 years, Debbie; children, Megan Mansfield (Justin) and Jesse Kerns (Rebecca); sister, Cheryle Wingo (Jim, deceased); Debbie's brother, Randall Wilson (Mikie, deceased); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and their families, other family members and friends.

A memorial service celebrating Wayne's life will be held at 7:00 pm Monday, May 17, at Solid Rock Bible Church, 2501 NE 39th Street, (NE Parvin Road at NE 39th Street) Kansas City, MO 64116.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Solid Rock Bible Church or to Smile Train (www.smiletrain.org).
