Lela June Riggs, 97, passed away peacefully at Baptist Home of Independence, Independence, Missouri. Lela was born in Alton, Missouri, graduated from Alton High School, and attended college in Springfield, Missouri. She taught school for two years at Mitchell and Bill Dad, then moved to Kansas City and worked at Bendix, Montgomery Ward and Sears before retiring. She was married to Bill Riggs for 37 years.
Lela was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) Riggs in 1984; daughter, Debi Riggs; and granddaughter, Renee Riggs. Survivors include her children Leroy and Sandy Riggs, June and Steve Love, Ronald and Charlotte Riggs; 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren; and her brother Haston Alford of Oregon.
Visitation will be 9AM, with services to follow at 10AM, Friday, April 19 at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd., Kansas City, Missouri; burial in Mt. Washington Cemetery.
