Linda Howard Lieurance

August 6, 1931 – June 3, 2025

Linda Howard Lieurance, 93, of Kansas City, MO passed away on June 3, 2025. Born in Coffeyville, KS on August 6, 1931 to Joe and Mildred (Forth) Howard. Linda grew up with a deep love of music, education, and faith. She lost her father during WWII in Iwo Jima and was raised by her devoted mother alongside her sister, Janice.

A gifted pianist from a young age, Linda was Drum Major and Vice President of her class at Coffeyville High School, graduating in 1949. She attended Coffeyville Junior College and later Phillips University in Enid, OK where she met the love of her life, Ronald “Tom” Lieurance. They married in 1953 and graduated together in 1954. They were blessed with two sons, Dirk and Barton.

Linda supported Tom through Harvard Divinity School while raising their young family. Their ministry journey took them from Flatbush Christian Church in Brooklyn, NY, to First Christian Church and Country Club Christian Church in Kansas City, MO, and ultimately Liberty Christian Church in Liberty, MO. Along the way, Linda became a beloved teacher in Kansas City’s Public Schools, known for her dedication to inner-city students and her pioneering work in computer literacy. She brought joy and curiosity to her classroom and played a key role in integrating early Apple computers into the curriculum during their initial development.

A lifelong leader in the church, Linda taught Sunday school, revived the bell choir, played piano during worship, and shaped lives through her quiet strength and deep faith.

In retirement, she learned to play the harp and volunteered with Rebuilding Together Kansas City. She and Tom enjoyed traveling, art, and entertaining their grandchildren. Later they decided to settle at Kingswood Senior Living where Linda was a very active member of the community.

Linda was a faithful servant of God and a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her life was defined by service, creativity, and compassion - touching generations through her music, ministry, and teaching. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Mildred Howard, sister, Janice Holmes, husband, Rev. Ronald “Tom” Lieurance, and son, Barton Lieurance. She is survived by her son, Dirk Lieurance, former daughter-in-law, Deby Lieurance, four grandchildren, Doug (Katie), Colby (Emily), Kathryn (Michael), Janelle (Craig), and eight great-grandchildren, Trent, Owen, Hudson, Pippa, Eisley, Bentley, Bella, and Navy.
