Lola Jeanette (Carroll) Rowland

On August 2, 2026, a loving family lost its most cherished matriarch. Lola went to be with Jesus and Heaven is a better place now that she is there. Lola, or better know as “mom” was born on January 18, 1929 in Monrovia, California. She enjoyed all things southern California had to offer but roller skating became her passion. She was swept off her feet at a young age by a very handsome sailor and married William “Al” Rowland shortly after World War II ended. They left California for a life in Kansas City, Missouri. Lola was a loving wife and friend to all who entered her home. She was an excellent cook and was known for her legendary pies. Summers were often spent at the lake or traveling to California to visit relatives. She was a talented painter and seamstress, but her favorite role was being a mother and grandmother. She treasured her time with her children, William “Bill” Rowland (Leslie), David Rowland (Connie), Cathy Andersen (Steve) and Gary Rowland (Pam). She was a devoted grandmother to her 13 grandchildren, often hosting sleepovers which included homemade waffles in the morning. With her children grown, she volunteered her time with the American Red Cross and obtained her LPN Certification. She retired from Independence Regional Hospital after 20 years of service. She enjoyed traveling and after retirement, she and Al took many cruises to different parts of the world. Lola was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years Al Rowland, mother and stepfather Beaulah and Cash Criswell, sister Chris Griffin, and brother Robert Carroll. She is survived by her 4 children, 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her and her legacy lives on in our hearts and the beautiful art she created and sewed will be cherished forever. Rest in peace, you will be with us in eternity mom. Job well done. Services will be at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd, Kansas City, MO 64138. Visitation will be August 12 at 10:00 am, Funeral 11:00 am.
