IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Loretta M.
Yates
November 27, 1940 – February 12, 2026
Loretta M. Yates, a cherished mother, and beloved member of the community, passed away on February 12, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on November 27, 1940, Loretta lived a life rich in love, commitment, and service, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.
For nearly 40 years, Loretta served as a judge on the election board, demonstrating her unwavering dedication to civic duty. This role was a testament to her deep-rooted belief in community engagement and participation. In addition to her professional contributions, she was a devoted housewife, tucked into the rhythm of family life — always there to support her children through their school functions, lending her time and energy without hesitation.
Loretta's love for her family was unparalleled. She embraced every opportunity to be involved, whether it was volunteering for various events at her children’s schools or spending afternoons in the backyard, tossing baseballs for them to practice. These moments were precious to her; they embodied the essence of family that she held dear. She loved going to the Royals games cheering on her hometown team with her daughter Nancy. She was also found cheering on her Chiefs on game days.
Beyond her commitment to family and service, Loretta had a passion for quilting. She poured her heart and creativity into every stitch, crafting beautiful quilts that her family treasured. Her hands brought warmth to their lives not only through her soft, handmade creations but also through the love embedded in each one. She took pride in her sewing skills, making dresses for her granddaughter Arianna, and her quilts were a symbol of her affection, lovingly given to her loved ones.
Loretta also enjoyed researching genealogy, exploring the threads of her family's history, and ensuring that the stories of those who came before her were preserved for future generations. Family was the cornerstone of her life, and she celebrated each connection with sincerity and warmth.
She was preceded in death by her previous husband: Nelson Yates Sr, and her parents: Clyde and Bernice Patterson.
Loretta is survived by loving husband: Jim Menaugh; her children: Nelson Yates, Daniel (Paula) Yates, and Nancy (Brandon) Kimmerly; her grandchildren: Stephen, Arianna, and Malikai; as well as her furry grand dogs: Gromit, and Winnie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinsons Foundation.
