Madge (Merle) Cooper, 89, died peacefully on July 4th 2026.
Madge was born May 1st, 1937, in St. Ann, Jamaica, to Miriam Whyte and Alfred Tennyson. She later moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where she began working as a housekeeper. As she began settling into her life in the United States.
She met her husband Joe Cooper through friends. Prior to meeting Joe, she had one son, Paul Smith. They later wed, and she became a stepmother to Joe Jr., Ray, Leon, John, Adam, and Gaither. Madge and Joe shared one son, Larry Cooper.
Madge had four sisters, Gloria Francis, Joyce Allen, Hyacinth Jean Tennyson (Deceased), Linda Francis (Deceased), and two brothers, Leecept Tennyson (Deceased) and Vincent Tennyson.
During her life in Kansas City, she had a strong Jamaican and Church community. Making friends and experienced new things. She stayed in close contact with family back home, frequently sending them letters and calling them. She went to Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri, where she served as a sister to the church. She was a strong and inspiring woman. She prioritized her family and home.
Her memory will be cherished by her stepchildren and two sons, Larry and Paul. Her grandchildren Stephanie, Michelle, Datemiea, Gena, Armani, and Nathan. Her siblings Gloria Francis, Joyce Allen, Vincent Tennyson, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 12 p.m.- 1 p.m., with services to follow at 1pm, Monday, July 27 at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd.; burial in Green Lawn Cemetery.
