Marilyn Jean Childs was born on September 26, 1932, in Kansas City, Missouri to David and Gladys (Milam) Childs. She was the second of four siblings. She grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Northeast High School in 1949. She died on April 14, 2026 in Lee’s Summit, Missouri at the age of 93.

Marilyn’s life was centered on her faith, family, and devotion to the Kansas City Royals. She was a long-time and faithful member of Independence Boulevard Christian Church in Kansas City. She adored and doted on her nieces and nephews and spent many years taking care of her parents, particularly her mother, who suffered an extended battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She enjoyed following her beloved Kansas City Royals, and either listened to or watched nearly every game for many years. Marilyn loved the Christmas holiday and made cross-stitch ornaments, which now grace family members’ homes.

She is survived by her sister, Diana; six nieces and nephews, Bob (Karla) O’Neal, Mike (Sandy) O’Neal, Lori Childs, Susy Clymer, Mike Sisk, Pete (Joni) Sisk; 12 great nieces and nephews; 11 great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Jackie and brother-in-law Karlin O’Neal, and her brother Don and sister-in-law Dee Childs.

A funeral service will be held at Park Lawn Funeral Home on Monday, May 4 at 1pm, followed by a short grave site service at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer’s Association of KC are welcome.
