Marjory Eloise Smith

March 2, 1938 — November 15, 2025

Marjory Eloise (Cox) Smith was born March 2, 1938, at St. Mary’s hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. She is the daughter of Lloyd L. and Mabel J. (Leonard) Cox. Wife of Charley Mason Smith for 46 years. They were married on September 21, 1956. They knew each other all their lives, they met at church when they were children.


She attended Benjamin Harrison Elementary School, Northeast Junior and Senior High Schools. She worked at The Salvation Army MoKan Camp as a waitress, cook and nurse, The Salvation Army Blue Valley Corps Day Care as a teacher’s aide and cook, The Salvation Army Westport Temple Corps as the Senior Citizen Director, at Gracemor Elementary School as a cook and teacher’s assistant. Marjory belonged to The Salvation Army all her life. She belonged to The Salvation Army Women’s Ministries, she played Mrs. Santa for The Salvation Army Nursing Home Ministries in St. Joseph, at The Salvation Army Christmas Kettles and at Wexford Place in Kansas City, Missouri. The last several years of her life she moved around a bit to be closer to her children and she was a member of Abundant Life Fellowship in Liberty, Missouri, Third Day Christian Fellowship in St. Joseph, Missouri, Rose of Sharon Pentecostal Church of God of Kansas City, Missouri and Crossroads Church in Lincoln, Nebraska and Parkway Christian Fellowship of St. Joseph, Missouri.


Marjory was proceeded in death by her parents Lloyd L. Cox and Mabel Jane (Leonard) Cox, brothers, Lloyd L. Cox, Jr. and Robert E. Cox, sister, Mary E. Lay, grandson Braxton P. Smith, her daughter-in-law Sharon K. Smith and all the little ones, we never got to hold. On April 6, 2002, the love of her life and father of her children, Charley Mason Smith, went to be with his friend JESUS CHRIST.


She is survived by her sons and their wives, Lt. Colonel Charles H. Smith of Schaumburg, Illinois, Timothy L. (DeLinda) Smith of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Markus S. (Ronda) Smith of Kansas City, Missouri, her daughters and their husbands, Janetta A. (Pastor David L.) Hugger of Savannah, Missouri and Sandra M. (Pastor Grady W.) Strop of Lincoln, Nebraska, 33 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson.


Her life Scripture in the Amplified Bible, “Through [skillful and godly] wisdom a house [a life, a home, a family] is built, and by understanding it is established [on a

sound and good foundation]. And by knowledge its rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. Know that [skillful and godly] wisdom is [so very good] for your life and soul; If you find wisdom, then there will be a future and a reward, and your hope and expectation will not be cut off. Proverbs 24: 3-4 and 14


Mom/Grandma was Promoted to Glory and went to be Jesus on Saturday, November 15, 2025, following several years of compassionate care from the Benedictine Living Community and Ascera Care Hospice. We rejoice that she is now at Home in Heaven! HALLELUJAH!
