Marti Burns passed away December 17, 2025, at Saint Luke's East Hospital in
Lee’s Summit, MO. She was 87. She was born April 27th, 1938 in Moline, IL andgrew up in Rock Island, IL. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Island, IL.
Marti met her husband Wesley Roy Burns Jr. at Valparaiso University in Indiana.They were married September 3, 1960 and were blessed with four sons. She issurvived by all of her sons: Kevin (Lori) Burns of Columbia, MO, Kris (Loretta) Burns of Lee’s Summit, MO, Kent (Christy) Burns of Blue Springs, MO and Kurt(Kelly) Burns of Mountain View, HI. She is afectionately known as “Nanny” or “Nanna” to her nine grandchildren and is survived by all nine: Jake (Lauren), Kyle, Tyler “TJ” (Jill), Melissa, Chris, Kaleb, Dustin “Dusty”, Alex (Katie) and Nathan. She was additionally blessed with seven great-grandchildren and issurvived by all seven: Lucas, Rhett, Ayden, Eisley, Ily, Theodore “Teddy” and Bryson. Marti was preceded in death by her husband Wesley, parents Arthur and Mildred Klockau, sister Karna (Vernon) Hollatz, and brother Keith (Charlotte) Klockau.
Marti was a surgical tech in Rock Island, IL before she started her family. And, after raising them served as a hostess at the KC Blood Center. She spent time as a choir director and organist at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Kansas City, MO, and an organist at Ascension Lutheran Church, also in Kansas City, MO.
Marti’s life could best be encapsulated by faith, family, friends, food, flowers, and fun. She loved humming birds and she was an avid KC Royals and Chiefs fan.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 29th at Park Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 29th at Park Lawn Funeral Home. She will be buried at Park Lawn Cemetery next to her husband Wesley.
The family requests that all memorials be donated to Timothy Lutheran School.
